Meeting Held to Address Fatal Cargo Truck Lift Accident in Gimhae
Focus on Strengthening Regular Inspections and Safety Education
The Yangsan Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor (headed by Kwon Koo-hyung) and the Gyeongnam East Branch of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (headed by Shim Yeon-seop) held a meeting on the 22nd at the Yangsan Branch Convention Hall with the Gyeongnam Headquarters of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and three transportation business associations of Gyeongnam Province (cargo, individual cargo, and parcel cargo). They discussed measures to prevent industrial accidents among cargo truck drivers.
This meeting was organized in response to a fatal accident on August 11, in which a worker died after being caught in a cargo truck lift (power gate) at a workplace in Gimhae.
The participants shared major accident cases, including this incident, as well as frequent occurrences of cargo falling, slipping, being trapped, and falling during the loading and unloading process. They focused on discussing each organization's roles and safety management measures to prevent recurrence.
Kwon Koo-hyung, head of the Yangsan Branch, emphasized, "Regular inspections and thorough maintenance of power gate equipment are essential to prevent similar accidents."
He added, "Since accidents such as falls, entrapment, and being crushed continue to occur during cargo loading and unloading, it is crucial to strictly follow safety rules, including preparing work plans and assigning work supervisors." He urged, "Please continuously share case studies and provide safety education for drivers and related workers to raise safety awareness at worksites."
