On August 22, Gwangju City announced that it will operate the 'Gwangju Peace Train,' a special program that will take citizens to visit the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on September 19.

This marks the second operation of the Gwangju Peace Train, following the previous event in June. The train, carrying a strong desire for peace and unification, will depart from Hyocheon Station and head to the Paju DMZ. Through the Peace Train, the city aims to provide an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the meaning of peace and unification and to further spread Gwangju’s spirit of democracy and peace.

During the train journey, participants will enjoy a variety of experience programs and cultural performances centered on the themes of peace and unification, including a 'traveling music cafe,' a 'nostalgic snack quiz,' and lectures, plays, and performances about unification. At the DMZ, participants will have a meaningful time experiencing the value of peace firsthand and connecting with the spirit of democracy and peace.

The train will accommodate 300 citizens. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Gwangju City website starting August 25. Any citizen residing in Gwangju is eligible to participate, and the participation fee is 110,000 won per person.

Park Yongsoo, Director of the Department of Democracy, Human Rights and Peace, stated, "The Gwangju Peace Train is a special journey created together with citizens, embodying the spirit of democracy and peace," adding, "We hope the Gwangju Peace Train will serve as a signal flare for establishing a foundation for peace between South and North Korea."
