Regarding the new government's national policy plans and direction, instructions were given to respond proactively in order to complete the administrative capital and establish Sejong as the future strategic capital.
Minho Choi, Mayor of Sejong City, held a departmental briefing session on August 21 to review the response plan to the National Governance Five-Year Plan announced by the National Policy Planning Committee and to examine ways to link the plan with the city’s administration.
The city plans to ensure that its key proposals are reflected in all areas of municipal administration-including urban development, industry, transportation, culture, and environment-in line with the five national goals, 23 strategic initiatives, and 123 national policy tasks proposed by the National Policy Planning Committee on August 13.
On this day, Mayor Choi, along with the Deputy Mayors for Administration and Economy and the heads of departments and bureaus, reviewed the overall direction and consistency of city administration based on the national governance plan and discussed sector-specific response strategies to government policies. In particular, regarding the first national policy task-constitutional amendment for a "True Republic of Korea"-the government’s agenda includes the formal designation of Sejong as the administrative capital. Accordingly, the city decided to actively present its opinions to the government when the National Assembly drafts a constitutional amendment in the future.
The inclusion of the construction of the Presidential Office in Sejong and other measures to complete the administrative capital as part of the 50th national policy task is also seen as the new government’s official commitment to completing the administrative capital. The city plans to respond in a way that will help make this a reality.
Mayor Choi stated, "We must ensure that Sejong City’s policy demands are sufficiently reflected as the national policy tasks are finalized through the Cabinet meeting," adding, "We will continue to strengthen communication with the government and the Local Era Committee going forward."
The city also shared and developed response strategies for major national policy tasks, including advanced innovation industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), welfare, and culture and tourism. The draft of the 123 national policy tasks will be finalized after the government’s final review and approval by the Cabinet meeting.
