Uijeongbu Emerges as a New Destination for ICT Innovation Companies
A New Model for Attracting Businesses to Northern Gyeonggi
On August 20, Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Donggeun Kim) signed a business agreement for "Fostering Digital Innovation Industry and Attracting Companies Based on Data and AI" with the Korea Small and Medium Venture Digital Innovation Association (Chairman Sang Lee) and the Korea Data Industry Association (Chairman Byungseon Song) at the HoeRyong Hall in City Hall.

This agreement is a follow-up measure that concretizes discussions held during a meeting with the Korea Small and Medium Venture Digital Innovation Association in April. At that time, the association pointed out the saturation of data centers in southern Gyeonggi and the Seoul area, and expressed the opinion that there is sufficient demand from ICT companies in connection with the planned data center in Uijeongbu.
This agreement is significant as it serves as a starting point for expanding these discussions and establishing northern Gyeonggi as a new hub for digital innovation.
The city has designated the Camp Red Cloud (CRC) site for media, content, and AI industries, while the Camp Stanley site is set to become an IT cluster as part of its strategic industries.
Through this agreement, the city will work together with the two associations to establish a foundation for attracting companies that will support these strategic industries, and will discuss concrete measures to create an advanced industrial ecosystem in northern Gyeonggi.
According to the agreement, the three organizations will cooperate in the following areas: fostering IT clusters and the data industry by utilizing returned land; attracting and promoting investment in data and AI-based companies; encouraging member companies and related firms to move into Uijeongbu and promoting their participation; providing expert consultation and cooperation linked to Uijeongbu City's policy projects; and offering administrative support such as proposing tax benefits and regulatory improvements.
Mayor Donggeun Kim stated, "The AI and data industry is more than just technology; it is a key driver that will transform the industrial structure and lifestyle of the city," adding, "Through this agreement, we will make Uijeongbu a digital innovation city and a future industrial hub where companies, talent, and innovation converge."
