Gwangjin District in Seoul (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) announced on August 20 that the 8th Hwayangyeonhwa Beer Festival will be held on August 26 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the main street of Hwayangjeil Alley Market.
Hwayangjeil Alley Market, located near Konkuk University, is a traditional market frequently visited by the younger generation. The district and the merchants' association have leveraged this characteristic by choosing "Hwayangyeonhwa," meaning "the most beautiful moment in life," as the theme of the festival.
The festival will feature programs that families and friends can enjoy together, such as recreation and quiz events, prize draws, and food booths. To ensure a safe festival, the district and the merchants' association have fully prepared by deploying safety personnel within the venue, installing evacuation guidance signs, and strengthening cooperation with the fire and police departments.
On September 23, Hwayangjeil Alley Market will also host the "Konkuk University Commercial District Food Culture Grand Festival," featuring beer and highball booths, collaborative food events between traditional markets and local stores, cultural performances, and an Onnuri payback event.
This year, starting with the Hwayangjeil Alley Market Beer Festival in June, Gwangjin District has showcased festivals highlighting the unique characteristics of each market, including the Myeongok Market Makgeolli Festival and the Jayang Traditional Market Beer Festival. Additional festivals will be held consecutively from September to October at Norunsan Alley Market, Shinsung Traditional Market, Jayang Hangang Traditional Market, Yeongdonggyo Alley Market, and Junggok Jeil Market.
Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, said, "I hope you can relieve the fatigue of daily life by clinking refreshing glasses of beer with your family and friends at Hwayangjeil Alley Market," adding, "We will continue to invigorate the local commercial district by fostering a festival culture that both residents and merchants can enjoy together."
