Nutritious Culture Delivery Project
Bringing Vibrant Traditional Theater to Yeongyang
Free Hands-on Activities and Performances for All Ages
Culture Creation Group Gongteoda (CEO: Hwang Yundong) is carrying out the 2025 Culture Day "Nutritious Culture Delivery" project, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and North Gyeongsang Province, and organized by the Gyeongbuk Culture Foundation and the Regional Culture Promotion Agency.
"Culture Day" is based on Article 12, Paragraph 2 of the Framework Act on Culture and provides various cultural benefits on the last Wednesday of every month (including that week) so that citizens can easily access culture in their daily lives.
This project is one of the various planned programs for Culture Day and is part of the "Every Corner Culture Delivery" initiative, which supports cultural enjoyment for citizens by visiting regions with limited access to cultural resources.
From June to November 2025, Gongteoda will provide on-site performance delivery services at various locations in Yeongyang County, aiming to enhance the cultural rights of local residents.
In addition, by selecting depopulated and aging areas in North Gyeongsang as beneficiary regions, the project fulfills a social role through arts and culture. The next event will be held at Yeongyang Culture Center at 3:00 p.m. on August 31.
From 2:00 p.m., there will be a hands-on program where participants can make scented pouches, followed by a performance of the traditional play "Why Ado Came to the South." Both the hands-on activity and the performance are free of charge.
The play "Why Ado Came to the South" has won a Silver Prize at the Gomanaru International Theater Festival and the Best Work Award from the Korean Theater Association. Since 2019, its excellence has been recognized, with more than 20 performances held nationwide to date.
The play tells the story of Monk Ado, who first introduced Buddhism to Silla, and More Jangja, who accepted him, delivering a message of coexistence and mutual prosperity. With vibrant dance and music, this acclaimed work offers both enjoyment and deep emotion, making it accessible to all ages. As a regionally specialized and outstanding performance, its participation in the Culture Day project holds special significance.
So far, performances have been held in Seokbo-myeon, Ipam-myeon, and Subi-myeon, receiving enthusiastic responses from local residents.
Audience members shared their impressions, saying, "The message of sharing during difficult times made the performance meaningful, and the songs and dances made it enjoyable. The scented pouch-making experience was also great. We are grateful that you came all the way to our town to perform."
In particular, at the Subi-myeon performance in July, children from Subi Daycare Center attended and had a wonderful time.
The next performance is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on September 28 at the outdoor stage of Dudeul Cultural Village in Seokbo-myeon. For inquiries about the performance, please contact Culture Creation Group Gongteoda.
