Proactive Response to Employment Deterioration Due to Petrochemical Industry Downturn
Eased Support Requirements for Six Months from the Designation Date

Jung Kimyeong, Mayor of Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, expressed his welcome on August 19 regarding the government's designation of Yeosu as a "Preemptive Employment Crisis Response Area."


This designation aims to proactively address the worsening employment conditions caused by the downturn in Yeosu's main industry, the petrochemical sector. The designation period is six months.

Yeosu City has continuously explained the structural difficulties of its key industries and the stagnation of the local job market to the Ministry of Employment and Labor, emphasizing the necessity of this designation, in close cooperation with South Jeolla Province, local political circles, and related organizations.


Following the designation, Yeosu will benefit from eased requirements and preferential support levels for programs such as employment retention subsidies, vocational skills development support projects, and livelihood stabilization loans.


Mayor Jung stated, "I hope this designation as a Preemptive Employment Crisis Response Area will provide practical help to local workers and businesses," adding, "We will continue to provide administrative support to create jobs and ensure employment stability."
