Reclaims Weekly Top Spot
Poised to Surpass 'Squid Game'
The animated film 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' reclaimed the top spot in Netflix's weekly movie viewership rankings in its ninth week since release. According to Netflix's official site Tudum on August 20, the film recorded 26 million views from August 11 to 17, making it the most-watched among all Netflix English and non-English movies. It ranked number one in 59 countries, including the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, and Taiwan. The view count is calculated by dividing the weekly viewing hours (43.3 million hours) by the runtime (1 hour and 40 minutes).
'K-Pop Demon Hunters,' also known as 'Kedeheon,' has remained at the top of Netflix's weekly rankings for nine consecutive weeks since its release on June 20. It debuted at number two in its first week, rose to number one in the second week, and has alternated between first and second place since then. From the last week of July (July 28 to August 3), it held the second spot continuously, but this week, it regained the top position. Even after two months since its release, it continues to record more than 20 million weekly views, putting it on the verge of becoming the most-watched film in Netflix movie history.
Netflix ranks its most-watched films and shows by comparing cumulative view counts over 91 days after release. Currently, the number one most-watched English or non-English film on Netflix is 'Red Notice,' released in 2021, with a cumulative view count of 230.9 million. The gap with 'Kedeheon' stands at 20.4 million views, and at the current pace, 'Kedeheon' is likely to surpass it next week. 'Kedeheon' might even overtake 'Squid Game' Season 1, which is the most beloved Netflix film or show ever, with a cumulative view count of 265.2 million. If 'Kedeheon' maintains its current performance for three more consecutive weeks, it could claim the throne.
