Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Myungsoo and Combined Forces Commander Xavier Brunson visited the Combined Military Intelligence Support Operations Component Command (CMISOCC) on August 19 to inspect the ongoing Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercise.

According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Chairman Kim and Commander Brunson visited the CMISOCC on this day to review the operational execution system and encourage South Korean and U.S. service members who are enhancing their combined operational capabilities through realistic UFS training. This on-site visit to the CMISOCC was conducted as part of a joint South Korea-U.S. command activity to assess the capabilities and operational execution system of wartime combined military intelligence support operations.

Chairman Kim stated, "In modern warfare, military intelligence support operations are the decisive factor in achieving victory before the battle begins. Always keep this in mind and play a key role in securing the initiative on the battlefield by performing missions that create a favorable operational environment across all domains, including the non-physical domain." He added, "As a combined component command, the CMISOCC should strive to maximize combined operational capabilities through close vertical and horizontal communication between South Korea and the United States."

Commander Brunson said, "The South Korea-U.S. alliance is our asymmetric advantage that can confront anything the adversary possesses. The combined intelligence support operations of both countries enable us to respond effectively in the information environment and strengthen the alliance's ability to observe, detect, understand, and act."

He continued, "Our training is complex and conducted at the combined, joint, and all-domain levels, ensuring our readiness to meet any challenge. The way we train today forms the foundation for our ability to fight tonight and win tomorrow."

Chairman Kim and Commander Brunson emphasized that the ironclad South Korea-U.S. combined defense posture is a powerful force for establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula, and that its capabilities can only be strengthened through realistic combined exercises.
