A Unique Sanctuary for Residents and Their Companion Dogs
Mapo District Opens 'Daengdaengi Park' for Shared Relaxation and Play
On August 18, Mapo District in Seoul (Mayor Park Kangsu) officially opened the 'Daengdaengi Park' near Exit 1 of Mapo Station (448 Mapo-dong), a place where residents and their companion dogs can enjoy together.

This space transforms the previously monotonous green area at the entrance of Mapo Bridge and Gangbyeonbuk-ro, providing a unique place for relaxation and play for local residents and their pets.
'Daengdaengi Park' is a multi-purpose relaxation area organically connected around 'Daengdaengi Waterfall,' an artificial rock waterfall measuring 4 meters in height and covering an area of 240 square meters. The park also features 'Daengdaengi Garden,' which allows for walks throughout all seasons, and 'Daengdaengi Playground,' a play facility exclusively for companion dogs.
Dozens of varieties of flowers and trees surround the waterfall, where walking trails and benches have been installed so that residents can enjoy the refreshing sound of water and the natural scenery while relaxing comfortably.
'Daengdaengi Playground' is equipped with safety fences, play equipment, and drinking fountains, allowing companion dogs to run and play freely. Owners can rest or take a walk nearby, creating special memories with their pets.
The opening ceremony was held on August 18, attended by Park Kangsu, Mayor of Mapo District, Baek Namhwan, Chairman of the Mapo District Council, district council members, and about 50 residents. Participants celebrated the opening of the new park with a ribbon-cutting and commemorative photos in front of 'Daengdaengi Waterfall.'
Mayor Park Kangsu stated, "This area, once a simple green space, has been reborn as a special place where residents and their companion dogs can enjoy together. As the top 'pet-friendly' district, I hope residents do not miss out on happiness with their pets, who are also family members. I also encourage everyone to make frequent use of the Mapo companion animal camping site and water play area during the rest of the summer."
