All 37 Cultural Cities Nationwide Gather Together
Yeongdeungpo District in Seoul (District Mayor Choi Hokwon), serving as the chair city of the National Cultural Cities Council this year, will host the "2025 Cultural City Expo" throughout Yeongdeungpo from September 4 to 7. This is the largest cultural event in the country utilizing local cultural assets, with participation from all 37 legally designated cultural cities nationwide.
Since being selected in 2021 as the only legally designated cultural city in Seoul, Yeongdeungpo District has been recognized for its capabilities, having been evaluated as an outstanding city in the Cultural City Development Project for two consecutive years. This year, as the fifth chair city of the National Cultural Cities Council, Yeongdeungpo successfully attracted the expo. The event is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and the National Cultural Cities Council, and organized by Yeongdeungpo District and the Yeongdeungpo Cultural Foundation.
The theme of the expo is "Blooming Diversity, Connecting Our City," symbolizing the creation of a vibrant culture as cities with diverse backgrounds come together.
At the large air dome installed in the Culture Yard of Yeouido Park, 37 cultural city promotional booths and forums will be held, allowing visitors to experience the policies and specialized projects of cultural cities from across the country in one place.
On the first basement level of The Hyundai Seoul, the event hall will feature a cultural city policy promotional booth under the theme "Yard of Colorful Oddity," offering citizen-participation programs such as surreal exhibitions, photo zones, and media art experiences.
During the expo, a variety of side events-including exhibitions, hands-on experiences, and art tours-will take place throughout Yeongdeungpo. All events are free to attend, though advance registration is required for some forums and experience programs. Detailed schedules and information will be available on the official "2025 Cultural City Expo" website starting August 20.
Choi Hokwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, stated, "This is an opportunity to enjoy the diverse culture of Yeongdeungpo, the 2025 chair city, along with the unique charms of all 37 cultural cities nationwide in one place. I hope many citizens will participate as the protagonists in experiencing and cultivating culture, making it a meaningful occasion for all."
