This project was implemented to protect the Wolnae-Gilcheon hinterland from natural disasters such as typhoons and tidal waves. The main components include the construction of a 480-meter-long breakwater and the reclamation of 18,798 square meters of public waters. On top of the reclaimed land, resident convenience facilities such as roads, parking lots, plazas, and parks have been established and will be utilized as a disaster prevention park.
Gijang County began the project in 2011 with a detailed design service and invested a total of KRW 32.2 billion (KRW 3.8 billion in national funds, KRW 4.6 billion in local funds, and KRW 23.8 billion in nuclear power plant support funds). The project was officially completed after receiving final approval for the reclamation construction from the Busan Metropolitan Government in July 2025.
The county expects that this project will not only help prevent disasters in the Wolnae and Gilcheon areas, but will also improve residents' living environments and revitalize the local economy through the convenience facilities established on the reclaimed land.
Jeong Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, stated, "With the completion of this project, we are now able to provide even greater protection for the lives and property of our residents against natural disasters such as typhoons. We will do our best to ensure that the resident convenience facilities continue to contribute to public welfare and the revitalization of the local economy."
