A Young Man's Kindness Touches Many Online
Helping an Elderly Woman Collecting Scrap Paper
A Ride in the Truck and a Gift of Fish
The heartwarming act of a young man in his 20s who gave a ride to an elderly woman collecting scrap paper in the sweltering heat and took her to the junk shop is touching many people.
Kim Jiwon, a young man in his 20s who runs a fish shop, recently posted a video on his Instagram titled "I Made an Elderly Woman Cry on the Street." He shared, "I happened to meet an elderly woman collecting scrap paper, and thanks to her, I realized that the joy of giving is greater than the joy of receiving. Doing good deeds is always a pleasure," he said, expressing his feelings.

In the video, Kim, who was driving a truck, spotted the elderly woman struggling under the midday sun, pushing a stroller loaded with scrap paper. When Kim called out, "Grandma!" the woman, worried that she might be causing a traffic obstruction, immediately apologized, saying, "Yes, I'm sorry." Kim helped move her load onto his truck and invited her to sit in the passenger seat. The woman, repeatedly thanking him, eventually burst into tears, saying, "I can't believe I met such a good person. I am so grateful."
After taking her to the junk shop, Kim personally handed over the scrap paper. The total amount the woman received for her collection was only 1,900 won. Nevertheless, she beamed, saying, "I earned so much today." Kim then offered her some frozen fish, saying, "I run a fish shop. Please take this and enjoy it." When the woman politely asked for just two, he joked, "I'll only give you two," handing her two packs containing six fish. The woman thanked him, saying, "Thank you. I wish you many blessings," and Kim replied, "Grandma, always stay strong," giving her a high-five before leaving.

The video sparked an outpouring of reactions from online users. Comments included, "It's rare to see a young man like this these days," "I hope both of you receive many blessings," "I teared up seeing her so happy with just 1,900 won," "It breaks my heart that she came out in the heat just to earn barely 2,000 won," and "If a young man like this runs a fish shop, I definitely want to visit." Messages of support continued to pour in.
As of the morning of August 18, the video had surpassed 1.2 million views, drawing widespread attention. In response, Kim said, "I'm still in disbelief at all the attention this has received. Meeting the elderly woman by chance, it feels like I've received a lifetime's worth of encouragement from so many people. Rather than helping her, I feel like I was the one who was helped. Maybe because I was raised by my grandmother, I always think of her when I see elderly people. I hope everyone will greet seniors warmly when you meet them on the street. They will truly appreciate it," he shared.
