Gwangju City Holds 80th Anniversary Liberation Day Celebration
Citizens Reflect on the Meaning of Liberation Together

On August 15, Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province successfully held the '80th Anniversary Liberation Day Celebration' at the City Hall Sueojangdae Hall, marking the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day. Citizens from all walks of life gathered to reflect on the historical significance of national independence and to share their commitments for the future in a meaningful event.

Approximately 400 distinguished guests attended the event, including Mayor Bang Sehwan, members of the National Assembly, city and provincial council members, and the head of the Gwangju branch of the Liberation Association, all coming together to share in the meaning of Liberation.


The event began with special performances on the theme of Liberation, prepared by the Gwangju City Women's Choir and the Opo Community Center. This was followed by commemorative and congratulatory speeches, a group singing of the Liberation Day song, and the three cheers for victory. The venue was filled with a solemn yet warm atmosphere, allowing attendees to reflect on the preciousness of Liberation.


In his congratulatory speech, Mayor Bang Sehwan stated, "It was our unwavering faith in independence that ultimately enabled us to achieve it," and expressed his aspiration to "carry on the values of Liberation and open a hopeful future together with the citizens."

Meanwhile, since August 11, Gwangju City has been holding a 'Special Poetry and Painting Exhibition Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Liberation' in the City Hall lobby. The exhibition aims to enhance understanding of the independence movement and is open to all citizens until the end of the month.
