Citizens Reflect on the Meaning of Liberation and Express Gratitude

On August 15, Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyunghyun) held the "80th Liberation Day Commemoration Ceremony" at the Cosmos Grand Theater in Guri Art Hall to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day.

Approximately 700 citizens, including bereaved families of independence patriots and heads of related organizations, attended the ceremony. They honored the noble spirit of the national heroes and independence activists who sacrificed their lives for the restoration of Korea's sovereignty, and reflected on the importance of loving their country.


The ceremony included the national pledge, commendations for distinguished individuals, a congratulatory speech by Mayor Baek Kyunghyun, the presentation of bouquets to the families of independence patriots, celebratory performances, a group singing of the Liberation Day song, a collective "Manse" cheer, and a large-scale calligraphy performance symbolizing the meaning of liberation.

In his congratulatory speech, Mayor Baek Kyunghyun stated, "The 80th anniversary of Liberation Day shines even brighter today thanks to the noble independence activists who laid the foundation for Korea's present and future with their indomitable spirit. I once again express my respect and admiration for the noble sacrifices of the national heroes and independence activists, and Guri City will remember their sacrifices forever."


After the ceremony, a luncheon was held at the city hall cafeteria for the bereaved families of independence patriots and their accompanying family members, concluding the event with a renewed expression of deep gratitude.
