LG Display has raised the average selling price of its display panels to the $1,000 level for the first time in six quarters.
According to the semiannual report disclosed by LG Display on August 14, the average selling price in the second quarter was $1,056. After remaining in the $700-800 range since the fourth quarter of 2023, when it reached $1,064, the price has risen again. The company explained that the main reason was the termination of its LCD TV business, which had lower prices per unit area.
Based on sales of medium and large-sized panels, LG Display's global market share fell from 14.6% in 2023 and 15.7% last year to 12.9% in the first half of this year. The market share for TV panels dropped below the 10% mark to 9.9%.
The market share for IT panels was 17.5%. The company stated that it is pursuing differentiation by shifting its business structure to focus on OLED and advancing LCD technology, in response to increased facility investment and purchasing by Chinese companies.
The ratio of research and development expenses to sales in the first half of this year was 10.4%, up from 8.4% last year, recovering to the 10% level.
