Busan Urban Corporation (BMC, President Shin Changho) has distributed fire extinguishers to all households in aging rental apartments to enhance residents' fire response capabilities.
According to BMC on August 14, this initiative covered all 10,958 households across 13 districts managed by the corporation. The fire extinguishers provided were ultimately selected as 1.5kg powder extinguishers, chosen for their ease of use and effective fire suppression, reflecting residents' feedback.
In addition to individual households, 204 units of 3.3kg powder fire extinguishers were installed in common areas such as apartment recycling stations. Furthermore, 210 throwable fire extinguishers were placed in each district's management office and social welfare center to enable a swift initial response in the event of a fire.
Shin Changho, President of Busan Urban Corporation, stated, "Although aging rental apartments face many limitations due to structural constraints, we will do our utmost to create a safe residential environment by installing alternative fire suppression systems such as simple sprinklers and systematically strengthening fire safety measures."
