Hopes to Become Partners
for Strengthening and Advancing Future Strategic Industries
President Lee Jaemyung held his first phone conversation since taking office with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman on the evening of August 13, according to the presidential office.
President Lee expressed his gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed for congratulating him on his inauguration, and assessed that South Korea and Saudi Arabia are closely cooperating as future-oriented strategic partners.
The two leaders noted that the two countries are expanding cooperation beyond the traditional energy and construction sectors to include manufacturing, defense, and advanced technology. They agreed to further strengthen this cooperation based on the longstanding trust between the two nations.
President Lee went on to express his hope that South Korea, as a key partner in Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 policy for post-oil economic diversification, will work together with Saudi Arabia to enhance the competitiveness and development of future strategic industries. He called for both countries to achieve tangible outcomes across all sectors.
Meanwhile, during the call, the two leaders agreed to continue close discussions on ways to further develop bilateral relations by meeting in person at a mutually convenient time in the future.
