Daegu and North Gyeongsang Suffer Sweltering Heat Again in Just One Day... Cheongsong Hits 33.4°C

The heat that had briefly subsided in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province due to rain the previous day returned in full force on August 13. Most areas experienced hot and humid weather, with daytime temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius.


According to the Daegu Meteorological Administration, the highest daytime temperatures on this day were 33.4 degrees Celsius in Cheongsong, 33.3 degrees in Gyeongju, 32.9 degrees in both Gumi and Uiseong, 32.4 degrees in Pohang, 32.1 degrees in Daegu, and 31.1 degrees in Andong. The previous day, rainfall ranging from 0.2 to 38.5 millimeters had kept temperatures between 23.5 and 27.9 degrees Celsius, but the situation changed within just one day.


The Korea Meteorological Administration issued a heat advisory for all areas of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, except for Yeongju, Bonghwa plains, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo, starting at 11 a.m. on this day. In some areas, there is also a possibility of a "tropical night," where temperatures do not drop below 25 degrees Celsius even at night.

The Daegu Meteorological Administration stated, "As the North Pacific high-pressure system expands, hot weather with a maximum perceived temperature of up to 33 degrees Celsius will continue for the time being," adding, "Some inland areas of Daegu and North Gyeongsang may also experience showers accompanied by thunder and lightning."


Meanwhile, light rain fell in some parts of North Gyeongsang Province on this day. As of 5 p.m., accumulated precipitation measured 16.5 millimeters in Ulleung (Cheonbu), 7 millimeters in Uiseong (Danbuk), 6 millimeters in Sangju (Gongseong), 5.5 millimeters in Gumi (Seonsan), and 4.5 millimeters in Mungyeong (Maseong).
