Mayor Jin Kyohun of Gangseo District: "Respond to Heavy Rainfall with Maximum Precaution"

in Response to Extreme Rainfall

On August 13, the Gangseo District Office in Seoul announced that Mayor Jin Kyohun rushed to the scene of the heavy rainfall to assess the damage. At 10:30 a.m. that day, when the Level 2 (Alert) heavy rain response crisis warning was issued for the southwestern region of Seoul, Mayor Jin personally began on-site inspections.

Mayor Jin visited Banghwa-dong, where rainfall reached a maximum of 119mm per hour, and personally patrolled areas vulnerable to flooding. He focused on a 3km stretch from the Magok Rainwater Pumping Station, passing through Banghwa 2 Complex Intersection and Magok Seogwang Apartment, to the Gaehwa Sluice Gate.


Immediately after completing his site inspection, Mayor Jin convened the heads of relevant departments and presided over the "Emergency Extreme Rainfall Countermeasure Meeting" at the district office's Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters. He reviewed the real-time rainfall by region, the status of damage from the heavy rain, and other response measures, emphasizing the need for a thorough and seamless response system. He also kept in direct contact with on-site response teams to check the status of flooding and confirm safety measures in person.


Mayor Jin stated, "To respond to extreme rainfall, we must maintain a thorough and proactive preparedness posture and respond swiftly to even the slightest signs of danger." He further instructed, "For areas where resident damage from flooding is a concern, implement safety measures such as road closures immediately, and respond as aggressively as necessary, even if it seems excessive."


Currently, Gangseo District is maintaining a 24-hour emergency response system to respond immediately to heavy rainfall and is making every effort to minimize damage.
