Cheongyang County’s Food Plan Achieves Nationwide Market Expansion
Stable Income for Local Farmers and Growth of Eco-Friendly Agriculture
Supplying Certified Products to 10 Stores in Daejeon and South Chungcheong
The food plan policy promoted by Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province since the 7th popularly elected administration has led to tangible results, including the opening of nationwide sales channels.
County Governor Kim Dongon secured a supply agreement with Hansalim, the largest eco-friendly distributor in Korea, thereby achieving both stable income for local farmers and the expansion of the eco-friendly agricultural base.
On August 12, Cheongyang County announced that, starting from August 13, it will supply eco-friendly agricultural products to 10 Hansalim stores in Daejeon and South Chungcheong.
To prepare for this, the county conducted a pilot supply in July to inspect the entire process of quality, logistics, and distribution, and based on high evaluations, the shipment was confirmed.
The food plan designed by Governor Kim is a virtuous cycle system that integrates production, processing, distribution, and consumption, shifting the paradigm of local agriculture toward safety and sustainability.
In particular, the agricultural product base price guarantee system introduced earlier this year has significantly reduced management instability for farmers by compensating up to 80% of the price difference for conventional products and up to 100% for eco-friendly or governor-certified products when market prices fall.
This shipment includes 23 items, such as Cheongyang chili peppers, shiitake mushrooms, onions, potatoes, lettuce, perilla leaves, radishes, napa cabbage, and tomatoes, all of which are high-quality, eco-friendly certified agricultural products.
Leading farms among Cheongyang County’s total of 1,296 farms are participating, directly introducing 'Cheongyang-branded' safe food to consumers.
The county is also preparing multifaceted distribution strategies, including expanding sales channels to major cities such as the Seoul metropolitan area and Yeongnam region, supplying processed goods, linking with school and public meal services, and direct online sales, based on Hansalim’s network of 239 stores nationwide and 785,000 member households.
Governor Kim stated, "This supply agreement with Hansalim is not just a simple distribution contract, but a turning point for Cheongyang County to become a national hub for eco-friendly and safe food," adding, "Building on the achievements of the food plan since the 7th popularly elected administration, we will complete a sustainable agricultural structure where both farmers and consumers can thrive together."
