Crystal New Materials Launches Next-Generation Coated Mica Tape

Crystal New Materials Launches Next-Generation Coated Mica Tape

Crystal New Materials announced on August 12 that it has launched a new second-generation coated mica tape, building on years of accumulated technology.

Demand for mica tape is surging in the cable market. However, conventional mica tapes, while able to address high-speed wrapping issues, have lacked sufficient mechanical performance in their coatings. This has led to problems such as coating damage and compatibility issues.

The second-generation coated mica tape introduced by Crystal New Materials features a high-performance design that uses special mica paper as the base, reinforced with glass fiber fabric, and a nano-inorganic material as the coating layer. This results in more stable performance and improved fire resistance.

The company has further enhanced the mechanical performance of the coating layer by retaining inorganic components, replacing the organic carrier with a stronger composite new material, and applying relevant additives.

Internal testing showed that the tensile strength of the next-generation coated mica tape has been significantly improved, effectively protecting the integrity of the glass fiber.

Unlike conventional mica tapes, this product does not have issues with glass fiber scattering or mica delamination, which increases winding efficiency and quality. It can also effectively prevent problems that occurred during the use of previous-generation coated mica tapes.

Crystal New Materials’ next-generation coated mica tape also boasts excellent wrapping properties, allowing it to easily pass the IEC60331 fire resistance test with just a single-layer wrap. As a result, costs for fire-resistant materials and labor can be significantly reduced.

A representative from Crystal New Materials stated, “As the world’s largest producer of artificial synthetic mica products, we have received science and technology achievement awards at the national, provincial, city, and county levels. We possess strong research and development capabilities, as well as dozens of invention patents and utility model patents.”

The representative added, “Among these, more than ten technologies?including double artificial synthetic mica?are internationally advanced or at the highest domestic level. We are currently focusing on promoting our next-generation mica tape in the market and expect this to drive additional growth in mica tape sales.”

Meanwhile, according to research by Frost & Sullivan, the global mica material market is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 18% from 2023, reaching a market size of 41.81 billion yuan by 2027. Of this, the market size for fire-resistant insulation materials is expected to reach 35.564 billion yuan.

Crystal New Materials is pursuing a comprehensive upgrade of its industrial research and development and production systems through its “AI+Materials” strategy, focusing on research and development of two-dimensional material products and expanding its core business areas.
