Governor Dongyeon Kim of Gyeonggi Province visited Motgol Market in Suwon, where he shopped using the Livelihood Recovery Consumption Coupon, and conveyed merchants' remarks that it was a relief to see consumer spending showing some improvement.
In a post on his social networking service (SNS) account on the 9th, Governor Kim wrote, "On my way back from visiting the House of Sharing in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, for the Memorial Day for Comfort Women, I stopped by Motgol Market in Suwon. I had lunch at a delicious and reasonably priced kalguksu restaurant, and since I was at the market, I did some shopping with my wife."
He continued, "Usually, July and August before Chuseok are the off-season for markets and the most difficult time, but people are saying that, perhaps thanks to the Livelihood Recovery Consumption Coupon, there are a bit more customers. In particular, beef at the butcher shops and hairtail at the fish shops are reportedly selling better than before."
He added, "Thanks to the consumption coupon, it feels good to see that not only are people's dining tables richer, but our hearts feel a bit fuller as well."
Earlier that morning, Governor Kim attended the Memorial Day and cultural event for comfort women at the House of Sharing in Gwangju, where he pledged, "I will do everything in my power to fully restore the honor and dignity of the comfort women."
