On August 8, Jeonnam Province conducted a special safety training session for local government officials and construction personnel to prevent suffocation accidents that may occur in confined spaces within regional water supply and sewage facilities.

The training focused on various risk scenarios, including oxygen deficiency and toxic gas suffocation, in confined spaces such as water supply and sewage pipelines, manholes, underground structures of water purification plants, and sewage treatment plants.

In particular, the training was conducted jointly with professional organizations such as the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency and the National Land Safety Management Agency, enhancing both the expertise and effectiveness of the program.

The special training for the prevention of suffocation accidents in confined spaces was centered on practical safety rules that must be checked on-site, including management of workplace hazards, warning of dangers around the work area, pre-inspection of the workplace and provision of safety equipment, as well as continuous ventilation and monitoring of personnel during operations.

Jeonnam Province is designating the period until September 30 as a focused response period for the prevention of suffocation accidents in confined spaces, in order to ensure systematic management of such facilities.

Kim Jungseop, Director of the Environment and Forest Bureau of Jeonnam Province, emphasized, "Water supply and sewage facilities have many confined spaces such as underground structures, and the working environment is harsh, making systematic management and strict adherence to safety rules by workers absolutely essential. We will thoroughly prepare to ensure that no precious lives are lost to suffocation accidents in confined spaces through training and the operation of this focused response period."
