Police: "Posting Threats, Even Without Intent, Is a Serious Crime"
A man in his 30s who posted a threatening message claiming to have planted explosives in the headquarters building of the game company Nimble Neuron has turned himself in to the police.
On August 8, the Jongno Police Station in Seoul announced that they had apprehended and were investigating a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of public intimidation.
Previously, a post stating "I also planted a bomb at the Nimble headquarters" appeared on an online community, prompting a netizen who saw the message to report it to the police. The police explained that after receiving the report in the early morning, they identified Mr. A's personal information and were tracking his whereabouts when he voluntarily appeared at the Jongno Police Station at approximately 11:30 a.m. to confess to the crime.
From around 2:35 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., the police deployed a special operations unit to search the interior of the building located in Sunae-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, but no hazardous materials were found.
A police official stated, "Even if there is no intent to carry out the act, posting threatening messages that imply harm is a serious crime that causes public anxiety," and added, "The police will respond strictly."
Earlier, on August 5, a middle school student who posted a notice about planting explosives at the main branch of Shinsegae Department Store was apprehended in Jeju, and a man in his 20s who wrote a similar threatening comment was also arrested in Hadong, Gyeongnam.
