Support from Household Waste Collection and Transportation Agencies and On-site Cleanup
On August 8, Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province carried out support activities for the disposal of flood waste in Yajeong Village, Sinan-myeon, Sancheong County, which suffered significant damage due to heavy rainfall.
The support effort involved waste collection agencies in the Changwon area and the Changwon City Household Waste Collection and Transportation Association.
A total of eight people participated in the support activities, including officials from Changwon City's Resource Circulation Division, waste collection companies Dongsung Industry and Shinil Environmental Industry Development, and the Changwon City Household Waste Collection and Transportation Association. They deployed one 75-ton grapple truck, one 5-ton dump truck, and two 25-ton trucks to the site, quickly transporting flood waste to a temporary transfer station and assisting with cleanup in the affected area.
Sancheong County suffered severe damage from heavy rainfall in July, and volunteers from across the country have been assisting with recovery. However, there was a shortage of equipment needed to handle the large volume of flood waste. In response, Changwon City decided to provide prompt support.
Lee Dongyul, president of the Changwon City Household Waste Collection and Transportation Association, stated, "We will continue to provide assistance to neighboring local governments whenever needed and plan to expand volunteer activities as well."
Jang Geumyong, acting mayor of Changwon Special City, said, "Disasters can strike anyone without warning," and added, "I hope this support will be of some help to the residents of Sancheong County who are struggling due to the flood damage."
