Gijang County in Busan Targets Both Environment and Welfare with Free "Knife Sharpening Center" Service

Free Knife Sharpening Service for Dull Blades
Touring Five Towns from August 18 to Late October

Gijang County in Busan (Governor Jung Jongbok) is launching a community-focused administrative service aimed at resolving everyday inconveniences and promoting resource circulation.

On August 8, Gijang County announced that starting from the 18th, it will operate the "Knife Sharpening Center" by touring the administrative welfare centers in each town and township.

This project is part of the "Gijang County Community Job Creation Program" and provides jobs to vulnerable groups in the job market, while offering free knife repair services to residents.

The "Knife Sharpening Center" will begin in Gijang-eup and will visit all five towns and townships until the end of October, operating on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each person can have up to two knives repaired for free, and up to 30 people will be accepted per day on a first-come, first-served basis at the site. Detailed schedules can be found on the Gijang County Office website.

This service is significant not only because it provides everyday convenience, but also because it promotes resource circulation and environmental protection by refurbishing knives that might otherwise be discarded. The county plans to analyze resident feedback and the effectiveness of the pilot operation, and is considering regular operation starting next year.

Governor Jung Jongbok emphasized, "We will continue to discover practical, everyday services that residents can truly feel," adding, "Through this project, we aim to improve the quality of life for residents and contribute to creating a virtuous cycle of environment and welfare."
