Calls for Recovery of Kim Keonhee's Criminal Proceeds
Criticism: "DNA of Rebellion Ingrained to the Core"
Jeon Hyunhee, Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized Kim Moonsoo, candidate for leader of the People Power Party, referring to his remarks from the previous day and calling him "the very person expediting the dissolution of the party." Jeon also argued that the criminal proceeds related to Kim Keonhee, wife of former President Yoon Sukyeol, should be identified and fully recovered by the state.
At the Supreme Council meeting held in Muan, South Jeolla Province on this day, Jeon strongly condemned Kim's recent statements.
Previously, Kim made remarks at a joint debate hosted by conservative-leaning YouTubers, including former Korean history instructor Han Gil and political commentator Ko Sunguk. He said, "No one died or was injured because of martial law declared by him (former President Yoon), did they?", "Our main enemy domestically is Lee Jaemyung, and if you include both South and North Korea, it is Kim Jongun," and "(If former President Yoon applies for party membership) of course he should be accepted."
Regarding this, Jeon stated, "The president, as commander-in-chief of the armed forces, calling someone the main enemy is not only a serious crime of insult and defamation, but also a violation of the National Security Act." She further criticized Kim's mention of the possibility of Yoon's rejoining the party, saying, "This is nothing less than a confession that the DNA of rebellion is ingrained in his body," and added, "A party that is not only unrepentant about rebellion but is also waiting for the return of the ringleader of the rebellion is truly the main enemy of democracy." She also said, "The Democratic Party will consider filing a complaint against candidate Kim Moonsoo, who has made such intolerable remarks."
Jeon also stated, "The public is well aware that the People Power Party is walking the path toward its own dissolution," and repeatedly called for self-restraint, reflection, and an apology to the people.
Jeon Hyunhee: "Former President Yoon must be arrested without fail"
She also criticized the repeated failures to arrest former President Yoon, who is currently detained at Seoul Detention Center. She said, "The public cannot understand why it is so difficult to bring out a single insurrectionist," and asked, "Since when did the Republic of Korea become a country where public authority collapses and the convenience of a single criminal is prioritized?" She continued, "No more leniency should be given to the ringleader of the rebellion who once called for lawmakers to be dragged out of the National Assembly by gunpoint," and emphasized, "The special prosecutor must arrest Yoon Sukyeol, who is acting as if he is above the law. We must never set a bad precedent where a criminal can simply hold out and get away with it."
She also stated that an arrest warrant should be issued for Mrs. Kim. Jeon said, "The only place for someone who mocks the law and the people is prison," and urged, "The court should issue the arrest warrant requested by the special prosecutor without a moment's hesitation." She added, "The special prosecutor must thoroughly track down every single criminal profit Kim Keonhee has earned through stock manipulation and abuse of state affairs, confiscate it to the very last won, and return it to the national treasury."
