Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Cho Kwangdeok) announced on August 8 that the 'WE Dream Park' project, being promoted in the Wangsuk 2 District in cooperation with Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH) and the Guri Namyangju Office of Education, has been finally selected for the Ministry of Education's '2025 School Complex Facilities Second Public Contest Project'.

School complex facilities are integrated centers equipped with educational, cultural, sports, and welfare functions, established through cooperation among schools, education offices, and local governments so that both students and local residents can use them together.

Wangsuk 2 District's 'WE Dream Park' is the first school complex facility among the third new towns to be selected for the Ministry of Education's contest. From the planning stage, the local government, the education support office, Gyeonggi Province, and GH formed a consultative body to systematically prepare for the project.

With this selection, the city has secured 33.5 billion KRW, which is about half of the total project cost of 66.9 billion KRW. This is the largest amount among the 12 projects selected nationwide in this contest.

'WE Dream Park' aims to create a 'safe educational community united by a park', and will be developed under the concept of a 'life-cycle Edu Park' that connects education from kindergarten to high school, as well as the 'Green Network' plan that links parks and schools.

Through this, the facility will provide students with a safe learning environment and offer local residents cultural and welfare spaces within their daily lives.

The facility will have a total floor area of 7,600 square meters, with one basement level and four above-ground floors. It will include a survival swimming pool, an indoor sports activity room, a makerspace, a hydrogen promotion center, a study cafe, and a care center, among other diverse functions.

Namyangju City plans to establish 'WE Dream Park' as an educational and cultural hub within Wangsuk 2 District to enhance the quality of life for residents and serve as a foundation for realizing a child-friendly city.

Mayor Cho Kwangdeok stated, "The selection in this contest is significant as it demonstrates that Namyangju City is leading the development of the third new towns as future-oriented cities centered on education and culture," and added, "We will complete WE Dream Park as an open space for all citizens and as a representative model of a city that is ideal for raising children."

Meanwhile, GH is scheduled to launch a design competition for 'WE Dream Park' this October. After going through various administrative procedures, the facility is planned to be completed in time for the move-in period of Wangsuk 2 District.
