Instant Discounts at Airport Duty-Free Shops
Participating Merchants Include Don Quijote and Bic Camera
Kakao Pay announced on August 8 that it is launching a payment promotion for travelers to Japan.
At the departure hall of Fukuoka Airport, Kakao Pay will hold a popup event and discount promotion in collaboration with Alipay+ (Alipay Plus). Alipay+ is a global e-wallet gateway operated by Ant International.
The popup event will feature benefits exclusively for Korean travelers, introducing Kakao Pay's Fukuoka Airport duty-free shop discounts and payment methods.
At the Fukuoka Airport duty-free shop, customers who pay with Kakao Pay and spend at least 15,000 yen (approximately 141,500 won) will receive an instant discount of 2,000 yen (approximately 19,000 won) once per person. Both the popup and duty-free shop discounts will be available until the end of next month.
Benefits are also available for payments made outside the airport. For first-time payments in Japan, the first customers will receive a 10% discount (up to 1,000 won). Discounts are also offered at Don Quijote and Bic Camera (up to 3,000 yen, approximately 28,000 won), Parco (up to 1,600 yen, approximately 15,000 won), Ito En vending machines (50%), and Isomaru Suisan (up to 600 yen, approximately 6,000 won).
Discount benefits are available not only at various merchants but also at major airports such as Narita, Haneda (both in Tokyo), Kansai (Osaka), and New Chitose (Sapporo). In total, Kakao Pay payment benefits are available at around 40 brands in Japan.
Events have also been prepared. Throughout this month, in collaboration with Jeju Air, a "travel kit" will be provided to passengers on select flights from Incheon and Busan to Fukuoka. The kit includes a unique Chyorudi mini keyring and information on Kakao Pay's local benefits in Japan.
A Kakao Pay representative stated, "When you pay with Kakao Pay in Japan, there is no need for currency exchange or credit cards, and the payment screen automatically adjusts. We hope travelers can enjoy a more practical and convenient trip to Japan."
