Ulsan City will implement measures to prevent serious industrial accidents at city-commissioned construction sites and operational workplaces this month, in response to the summer heatwave and heat-related illnesses.
To prevent heat-related illnesses among workers at sites during the peak summer season and to improve their ability to provide prompt first aid, the city will conduct a total of four on-site small-group training sessions throughout August.
In addition, from August 11 to August 22, Ulsan City will conduct site inspections at seven operational workplaces, including Ulsan Library, Ulsan Arboretum, and the Agricultural Technology Center. The inspections will be carried out by Ulsan City safety and health managers, with supervisors from each department present.
During these inspections, the city will focus on identifying risk factors at each site, checking the implementation of safety and health measures, and providing guidance and advice on necessary improvements. These practical actions aim to prevent workplace accidents and protect the health of workers.
Furthermore, on August 19, a site safety inspection will be conducted at the construction site of the Youth Hope Housing project in Yangjeong-dong, Buk-gu. A total of seven people, including industrial safety and health monitors and the city safety inspection team, will participate.
At this event, the city will focus on checking overall safety management at the construction site, including whether safety and health rules are being followed, such as ensuring that workers are given at least a 20-minute break every two hours when the perceived temperature exceeds 33°C due to the heatwave.
An official from Ulsan City stated, "With record-breaking heatwaves continuing, we will strengthen our supervision of city-commissioned construction sites and operational workplaces to protect the health and safety of outdoor workers." The official also urged, "We ask all citizens to pay special attention to following safety guidelines and managing their health."
