Governor Jeon Jinseon Says "It's Time to Lift 50 Years of Paldang Watershed Regulations" The Gyeonggi Joint Countermeasures Committee held a "Paldang Watershed Regulation Improvement Petition Campaign Briefing" on the 6th at the Danwol-myeon Multipurpose Welfare Center in Yangpyeong-gun. Provided by Yangpyeong-gun

This briefing was organized to explain the irrationality of overlapping regulations in the Paldang watershed to the heads and secretaries of the village leaders' councils from 12 towns and townships in Yangpyeong-gun, and to share the justification for promoting the upcoming petition campaign.

Under the slogan "Special sacrifices require special compensation," the Gyeonggi Joint Countermeasures Committee plans to launch a full-scale petition campaign calling for reasonable regulatory improvements in the Paldang area. During the briefing, the following topics were shared: the progress and future plans for regulatory improvement, the results of the 2025 meetings between the Ministry of Environment and the Gyeonggi Joint Countermeasures Committee, and the direction for the petition campaign.

A representative of the Gyeonggi Joint Countermeasures Committee pointed out, "For the past 50 years, residents of the seven cities and counties in the Paldang watershed have endured various overlapping regulations to ensure a stable water supply for the Seoul metropolitan area. Despite achieving stable water quality, including reaching the target of first-grade water, unreasonable regulations are still maintained, severely restricting residents' property rights and regional development."

The representative further emphasized, "Active participation in the petition campaign by local residents is urgently needed to achieve reasonable improvements to regulations that have persisted for 50 years."

Jeon Jinseon, the governor of Yangpyeong-gun, stated, "I hope this briefing and the petition campaign led by the Gyeonggi Joint Countermeasures Committee will provide an opportunity to resolve the grievances of residents in the seven cities and counties of the Paldang watershed, who have suffered from various environmental regulations since the enforcement of the Han River Act. I ask for the interest and participation of many residents."

Meanwhile, starting with Yangpyeong-gun, the Gyeonggi Joint Countermeasures Committee plans to continue holding briefings and resident petition campaigns in the seven cities and counties of the Paldang watershed: Gapyeong-gun, Gwangju-si, Namyangju-si, Yeoju-si, Yongin-si, and Icheon-si.
