Comprehensive Review of Disaster Response

On August 6, as Buk-gu in Gwangju was designated a special disaster area, Buk-gu District Mayor Moon In stated, "I welcome President Lee Jaemyung's decision," adding, "We will do our utmost to restore residents' daily lives and conduct a comprehensive review of our disaster response system."

Mayor Moon said, "Record-breaking heavy rain in July caused destruction throughout Buk-gu and left deep scars on the lives of residents," and expressed gratitude to residents and related organizations for their solidarity during this desperate situation. He continued, "President Lee Jaemyung took this matter seriously and made the decision to declare a special disaster area. This is the result of cooperation and attention from all sectors."

He also stated, "In the face of repeated heavy rain, following the events of 2020, I feel a heavy sense of responsibility for the shortcomings of the administration," and emphasized, "We will comprehensively review the speed of our disaster response and our prevention systems," promising to swiftly implement flood prevention infrastructure projects as well.

Mayor Moon declared, "We will deliver national and livelihood support as quickly as possible, ensuring not a single person is left out," and added, "We will make sure Buk-gu becomes a safer and more resilient city."

Buk-gu suffered damages totaling approximately 17 billion KRW, and 37 types of support, including disaster relief funds and public utility fee reductions, will be provided to affected residents.
