The Gwangju Employers Federation is carrying out various initiatives to revitalize local neighborhood economies in order to support the growth of small business owners and the self-employed.
According to the Gwangju Employers Federation on August 6, the federation is encouraging its member companies and their employees to actively use local currency and regional gift certificates at traditional markets and neighborhood supermarkets whenever they are issued.
In addition, among its member companies that own commercial buildings, the federation is recommending participation in the "Good Landlord Campaign," which urges landlords not to raise rents in order to help share the burdens faced by small business owners. The federation is also running a campaign to encourage member companies to prioritize local neighborhood businesses for lunch, dinner, and company gatherings whenever possible.
In particular, the Gwangju Employers Federation regularly checks the websites of local government small business support centers, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and the Small Enterprise and Market Service to quickly share information about various support policies with its member companies, providing them with practical assistance.
A representative from the Gwangju Employers Federation stated, "Natural disasters are especially harsh for small business owners," and appealed, "Employees of member companies and citizens should intentionally visit shops and traditional markets in affected areas and try to help by making even a single extra purchase."
The representative continued, "Thanks to measures such as the issuance of livelihood recovery consumption coupons, consumer sentiment has shown some short-term improvement," adding, "Fundamentally, however, high inflation and high interest rates persist, and with the recent heavy rainfall damage, small business owners and the self-employed still feel that business conditions are difficult and precarious. Now is the time for us to pool our wisdom so that these livelihood recovery consumption coupons can serve as a catalyst for neighborhood economies and help the regional economy achieve a full rebound."
