Samyook University and Yeoncheon Office of Education Sign MOU to Promote International Exchange Education

Establishing a Foundation for Educational Cooperation
to Enhance Youth Global Competence

Samyook University announced on August 8 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Yeoncheon Office of Education in Gyeonggi Province on August 1 at the Grand Conference Room of the university's Centennial Memorial Hall.

The signing ceremony was attended by Je Haejong, President of Samyook University, Kim Yongseon, Vice President, Park Cheolju, Dean of Academic Affairs, Jeong Hyeoncheol, Director of the Lifelong Education Center, as well as other university officials. From the Yeoncheon Office of Education, Lee Sangho, Superintendent, and Yoon Namhee, Director of Education, were present.

Under this agreement, the two institutions will operate the 'Yeoncheon Aid Global Australia Jump Up (UP) Shared School,' a university-community linked international exchange education program.

This program is designed for 42 middle school students preparing for a language study program in Australia and was planned to enhance their understanding of the culture and language of the destination country prior to departure.

In addition, the two institutions will hold the 'Global International Forum Jump UP Shared School' camp from August 11 to 13, a three-day, two-night program.

The camp will focus on the theme of ecological environment and will be offered to about 20 middle and high school students. It will include a variety of experiential programs such as discussions and activities on topics like the connection between cities and nature, and the interconnectedness of life.

Students participating in the camp are also scheduled to take part in the Youth Special Session of the 'Nature and Peace International Forum,' which will be co-hosted on October 23-24 by the Yeoncheon Office of Education, Yeoncheon County, and the United Nations-affiliated international organization ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability).

President Je stated, "This agreement will serve as an opportunity to provide new educational experiences to young people in the Yeoncheon region by utilizing the university's international network."
