A forum was held to share the direction and strategies for transforming the idle site created by the relocation of the Daedeok District Office in Daejeon into a future innovation hub for the region, and to collect opinions from local residents.

On August 5, Daejeon City held a public hearing at the Daedeok District Office Integrity Hall regarding the plan for establishing the 'Ojeong National Pilot District (Urban Regeneration Innovation District)'.

The core of the 'Ojeong Innovation District' is to strengthen the technology base by connecting the R&D capabilities of the Daedeok Research and Development Special Zone and retired scientists and engineers with local manufacturing companies, and to develop a complex urban economic hub where industry, residential, and cultural elements are integrated.

The main projects include: ▲ Establishment of a manufacturing innovation ecosystem based on industrial design and engineering ▲ Operation of a platform linking highly experienced talent ▲ Creation of residential infrastructure for young people and workers ▲ Expansion of living SOC and cultural facilities.

The city plans to enhance the competitiveness of technology-based industries and establish a sustainable urban regeneration model that encompasses housing and welfare through this project.

About 200 people, including officials from Daejeon City and Daedeok District, experts, and residents, attended the public hearing to share the project plan and present a variety of opinions through discussions and Q&A sessions.

The city plans to gather opinions from the city council in September, apply for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's National Pilot District designation in October, and aims for final designation in December.

If designated as a National Pilot District, it is expected that not only will national funding be secured, but also that links with government policies will be strengthened, thereby accelerating the project's progress and improving its quality. In particular, as a leading model for urban regeneration, including R&D-industry linkage, improved residential conditions for young people, and expanded complex cultural infrastructure, there is significant potential for nationwide expansion.

A Daejeon City official stated, "We will actively pursue the Ojeong Innovation District so that it can enhance the technological competitiveness of local manufacturing companies and grow into a future-oriented urban regeneration hub that provides both jobs and a quality living environment."
