Sejong City Sets Nation's First Standards for Automatic Clean Net Household Waste Disposal

Sejong City Revises Waste Management Ordinance
Establishes Detailed Regulations for Automatic Clean Net Household Waste Disposal

Sejong City Sets Nation's First Standards for Automatic Clean Net Household Waste Disposal

Sejong City, which was the first in the country to establish automatic Clean Net household waste disposal standards, has significantly improved convenience for both users and administrators.

According to Sejong City on July 5, the city revised its waste management ordinance last July to stipulate, by law, the methods for disposing of household waste via the automatic Clean Net system and the obligations that must be observed by waste disposers. The automatic Clean Net is a waste transfer facility that collects household waste through underground pipelines when it is disposed of at the input port.

Until now, the automatic Clean Net system had caused ongoing inconvenience to citizens due to illegal dumping of waste around the input port, environmental pollution, and frequent blockages and collection failures resulting from the indiscriminate disposal of bulky waste and construction site waste. Therefore, in order to encourage proper use of the automatic Clean Net by citizens, Sejong City became the first in the country to revise its ordinance and establish detailed regulations for household waste disposal using the automatic Clean Net system.

The main points of the new regulations include: ▲Disposal of household waste and food waste only at designated input facilities; ▲Prohibition of disposing of small home appliances, bulky waste, household waste that may cause malfunctions in the automatic collection facility, construction site household waste, and hazardous household waste into the automatic Clean Net system.

If household waste or food waste is left near the input port instead of being inserted, or if prohibited waste is disposed of via the system, a fine of up to 1 million KRW will be imposed in accordance with the Waste Management Act.

Kwon Youngseok, Director of the Environmental Greenery Bureau, stated, "We have established the minimum regulations by revising the ordinance to address the operational issues of the automatic Clean Net system," and added, "We ask for the cooperation of all citizens to ensure that the automatic Clean Net, a public facility, is used properly."
