JMS Files Injunction to Ban Broadcast of "I Am a Survivor" Against MBC and Netflix
Christian Gospel Mission (JMS) has filed an injunction with the court to prohibit the release of Netflix's new documentary "I Am a Survivor."
According to the legal community on August 4, JMS submitted an application for a broadcast ban injunction to the Seoul Western District Court on July 29 against Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and Netflix. The hearing is scheduled for August 12.
"I Am a Survivor" is a sequel to the Netflix documentary series "In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal," which was released in 2023. The sequel is set to be released on August 15. The previous series sparked significant social controversy at the time of its release by focusing on exposing pseudo-religious groups.
The new documentary features the voices of survivors from four incidents: JMS, the Busan Hyeongje Bokjiwon case, the Jijonpa incident, and the Sampoong Department Store collapse disaster.
Previously, JMS also applied for a broadcast ban injunction against MBC and Netflix in February 2023, ahead of the release of "In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal," but the court dismissed the request.
