As Part of the Korea Foundation's Language and Culture Training Program
Introducing the Industrial and Tourism Attractions of Chungnam Province
On August 4, Chungnam Province invited diplomats from 17 countries, who are currently participating in the Korea Foundation's (KF) "Korean Language and Culture Training" program, to the provincial government office to introduce Chungnam's industries, culture, and tourism resources.
This visit to the provincial government was organized as part of the diplomats' Korean language and culture training, which is being operated by the International Development Cooperation Center at Soonchunhyang University. The purpose is to enhance the diplomats' understanding of the fields of diplomacy and trade, as well as culture and tourism.
The diplomats who visited Chungnam on this day represented 17 countries: Guyana, Nigeria, Nepal, Malawi, Malaysia, Morocco, Mongolia, Myanmar, Azerbaijan, Oman, Honduras, Iraq, Egypt, Georgia, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Chungnam Province provided the delegation with explanations about the province's industrial investment environment, the current status of overseas offices, and the "Visit Chungnam Year 2025?2026" initiative. The province also screened a promotional video to draw interest in the region.
The diplomats also toured legislative facilities such as the main assembly hall, experiencing firsthand the workings of Korea's local autonomy system.
Jeon Hyeongsik, Vice Governor for Political Affairs of Chungnam Province, stated, "Chungnam has attracted a cumulative total of $3.9 billion in foreign investment over the past three years, drawing the attention of global companies." He added, "We are focusing on fostering advanced industries such as display, semiconductors, and automobiles, as well as future industries like smart farms, biohealth, and renewable energy."
He continued, "We are also working to vitalize tourism based on historical and cultural resources rooted in the Baekje culture from 1,500 years ago, as well as our natural landscapes." He expressed his hope that "this visit will provide an opportunity for a deeper understanding of Chungnam and leave lasting positive memories."
Meanwhile, since June, the diplomats have been staying at Soonchunhyang University for eight weeks, participating in various programs including Korean language classes, cultural experiences, and field trips.
