People Power Party Congratulates Jeong Cheongrae on Election... Urges Democratic Party to Respect People Power Party as a Partner

"Stop the Struggle Against the Opposition and Respect the Opposition"
"If Practical Policies Are Developed, We Will Cooperate Unconditionally"

The People Power Party commented on the election of Jeong Cheongrae as the new leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stating, "We hope that the Democratic Party will respect the People Power Party as a partner in state affairs."

On August 2, senior spokesperson Kwak Gyutaek of the People Power Party issued a commentary regarding Jeong's election, saying, "Congratulations on your victory."

However, he added, "At the same time, it is true that there are concerns about 'Jeong Cheongrae's Democratic Party,'" and pointed out, "Jeong is considered one of the most hardline figures within the Democratic Party, and during his tenure as chairman of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, he has used the party's large number of seats to suppress the People Power Party."

Kwak emphasized, "The ruling party leader is required to play a crucial role and bear the responsibility of stably supporting the ruling power while also demonstrating the ability to cooperate with the opposition." However, he continued, "Given his previous words and actions, it seems all too clear that Jeong's goal lies more in 'ruling party dominance' and 'legislative dictatorship' than in 'bipartisan cooperation.' If the Democratic Party does not intend to cater only to its hardline supporters, we hope that, even now, it will stop its 'struggle against the opposition' and 'threats to the opposition,' and respect the People Power Party as a partner in state affairs."

He promised, "If the Democratic Party focuses its efforts not on political strife but on developing practical policies for national unity and resolving people's livelihoods, the People Power Party will also offer unconditional cooperation for the sake of the people's livelihood and the national interest."
