Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, announced his participation in the upcoming Democratic Party leadership convention and pledged to work together to create a better life for the people.
On August 2, Governor Kim wrote on his social networking service (SNS) account, "I am participating in the Democratic Party convention," and added, "I was pleased to take photos with fellow party members not only from Gyeonggi Province but also from distant regions such as Gwangju Metropolitan City, Changwon, and Ulsan."
Governor Dongyeon Kim of Gyeonggi Province posted a message and photo on his social media on the 2nd.
He continued, "In about an hour (today), the captain of the Democratic aircraft carrier, who will create the 'real Republic of Korea,' will be decided," and expressed his anticipation by stating, "Regardless of who becomes the captain, I will support the success of a government based on popular sovereignty."
He further added, "As a united team, I will also work together to create a better life for the people."
On this day, the Democratic Party is holding its 2nd Extraordinary National Party Members' Convention (leadership convention) at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, to proceed with the election of the next party leader and Supreme Council members.
This leadership convention is largely a by-election due to the resignation of President Lee Jaemyung from the party leadership and Prime Minister Kim Minseok from the Supreme Council. The party leadership contest is a two-way race between Jung Chungrae, a four-term lawmaker, and Park Chandae, a three-term lawmaker.
