Shin Junghoon Welcomes Establishment of Next-Generation Power Grid Innovation Base in South Jeolla

Government Makes the "Optimal Choice" Reflecting Technical and Geographical Conditions
"Energy Industry Hub and Key Base for Next-Generation Power Grid"

Shin Junghoon Welcomes Establishment of Next-Generation Power Grid Innovation Base in South Jeolla Shin Junghoon, member of the Democratic Party of Korea.

Shin Jung-hoon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Naju and Hwasun in South Jeolla Province, expressed his support on August 1 for the presidential office's announcement of the "South Jeolla Region Next-Generation Power Grid Innovation Base Plan."

This plan is regarded as a concrete implementation measure of the presidential campaign pledge to "develop Gwangju and South Jeolla as a hub for the energy industry." It is seen as the starting point for building an innovative energy system that utilizes South Jeolla's abundant renewable energy resources.

Shin emphasized, "Although South Jeolla possesses abundant renewable energy resources, there have been many limitations due to a lack of transmission and storage infrastructure. The government's designation of South Jeolla and Gwangju as key hubs for next-generation power grid construction is the optimal choice, reflecting both technical and geographical conditions, and it is a direction aimed at resolving regional disparities in power infrastructure."

In particular, the transition of the Yeosu and Gwangyang industrial complexes to microgrids is expected to become an important model that innovatively connects local energy production and consumption. Through this, it is anticipated that both the region's energy self-sufficiency and industrial competitiveness can be enhanced.

With the participation of Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH), demonstration projects and talent development programs are also set to be fully launched. Shin projected, "Once a demonstration-based foundation linking education, research, and industry is established, it will make a significant contribution to nurturing young talent in the region and creating high-quality jobs."

Regarding the government's proposed measures for the "industrialization of power technology" and the "export industrialization of energy," he stated, "The plan to foster energy as a national strategic industry, following semiconductors, presents both a new opportunity and a heavy responsibility for South Jeolla. The National Assembly will actively support the region's challenges through legislation and budgetary measures."

Meanwhile, Shin added, "A next-generation power grid cannot be completed by technology alone. Laws, systems, and budgets must be in place for real change to occur. I will continue to work to ensure that South Jeolla becomes the center of Korea's energy transition and a driving force for industrial structural innovation."
