Proposing 12 Core Projects Including Baekje Cultural Tourism Hub and Metropolitan Transportation Network
Strengthening Cooperation with Central Government Agencies
On July 31, Gongju City in South Chungcheong Province announced that it held a policy meeting with National Assembly member Park Soo-hyun (Chairman of the Special Committee on Balanced Growth under the National Policy Planning Committee) at the Changseong-dong Annex of the Seoul Government Complex, where they discussed key regional issues and strategies for securing national funding.
The meeting was attended by Representative Park Soo-hyun, officials from the Special Committee on Balanced Development, Mayor Choi Woncheol, and six other officials from Gongju City.
The city requested the inclusion of major projects, currently being promoted as presidential regional pledges, into national policy agendas and asked for budgetary support.
In particular, the city highlighted the necessity and justification for 12 core projects, including the establishment of a Baekje Cultural Tourism Hub, the expansion of the Yugu IC to Asan Songak road, and the creation of a national public institution training complex.
Additionally, the city requested budget allocations for projects eligible for national funding, such as the creation of a symbolic avenue for the ancient capital, the Jeonmak District stormwater runoff reduction facility, the Gongju office of the Livestock Environment Management Institute, and the establishment of the Jukdang-ri Land Art Park.
Mayor Choi stated, "It is essential to reflect the presidential pledges in national policy agendas and secure government funding to ensure these projects proceed without setbacks," adding, "We will further strengthen our cooperation system with central government agencies."
Representative Park said, "We will provide the utmost support through the Special Committee on Balanced Development so that Gongju City can emerge as a future growth hub in the central region."
Meanwhile, the city plans to actively visit central government agencies and the National Assembly during the budget deliberation period to continue its efforts to secure national funding, taking this policy meeting as an opportunity.
