Meetings Allowed at Night and on Weekends During Detention
Attorney Meetings Permitted Even in Investigation Rooms
Seoul Detention Center Urged to Cooperate with Order for Compulsory Transfer
On August 1, the Democratic Party's Special Committee for Comprehensive Response to the Three Major Special Prosecutions held a press conference at the National Assembly and disclosed the visitation records of former President Yoon. According to the committee, during the entire period of detention, former President Yoon met with a total of 348 individuals, including attorneys, for a combined total of 395 hours and 18 minutes.
During the first period of detention (January 16 to March 6, a total of 49 days), former President Yoon met with 292 individuals, with 151 separate visits, totaling 341 hours and 25 minutes. During the second period of detention (July 10 to July 29, a total of 19 days), he met with 56 individuals over 40 visits, with a total visitation time of 53 hours and 53 minutes.
The committee criticized these figures, stating, "These numbers go far beyond the scope of ordinary attorney and general visitations." They also pointed out that visits took place outside of regular working hours (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and even on weekends. Additionally, regarding attorney visitations, the committee revealed, "It has been confirmed that attorney meetings were held in 'investigation rooms' where prosecutors or police conduct official investigations."
In relation to this, the committee decided to request the Seoul Detention Center to "cooperate with the special prosecutor's order for compulsory transfer of former President Yoon," and to "immediately submit to the National Assembly all internal meeting documents and the grounds for approval regarding so-called 'special visitations,' including location changes and nighttime visits."
