A Classical Music Appreciation Session to Enjoy in the Daytime
Songpa District in Seoul (District Mayor Seo Gangseok) will host the '2025 Matinee Lecture & Music Appreciation Room' event at Lotte Concert Hall at 11:30 AM on August 21.
This concert is designed as a 'classical music appreciation session with commentary,' aiming to enhance the public's understanding of classical music, which is often perceived as difficult, and to help rediscover the charm of classical music that becomes more enjoyable the more you know. The program, which runs a total of six times from June to November, is organized by Songpa District and the Songpa Cultural Foundation, with sponsorship from the Lotte Cultural Foundation.
The term 'matinee' in the event's title refers to a daytime performance that can be enjoyed without burden. For this event, Kim Hyesun, a former KBS producer who has directed numerous classical music programs, will take the stage to provide in-depth commentary for about 90 minutes, sharing background knowledge and stories related to the music. Video screenings on a large screen will further enhance the audience's understanding and interest.
Each session focuses on six representative masters of the Baroque and Classical periods, the two major streams in Western music history. This concert will spotlight the Baroque-era composer Bach. Future sessions will feature stories about Classical masters such as Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.
Participants will be able to experience the lives and musical worlds of different classical composers from various perspectives through lectures and music appreciation at each session. The event will run for 90 minutes without intermission, starting at 11:30 AM, and is open to anyone aged seven and older.
Reservations can be made on a first-come, first-served basis via 'Naver Reservation' starting two weeks before the performance date. For the August 21 concert, reservations open at 11:00 AM on August 6. Detailed information can be found on the Songpa Cultural Foundation's website and blog.
Seo Gangseok, Mayor of Songpa District, said, "We have prepared this concert to provide a unique opportunity that goes beyond simple music appreciation and helps cultivate the cultural sensibility of our residents. We hold free concerts at Lotte Concert Hall every quarter, and we will continue to offer diverse opportunities so that all residents can enjoy high-quality culture and arts."
