The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education announced on August 1 that there have been a series of scam attempts involving individuals impersonating education office officials, and urged the public to exercise caution.
According to the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, on the same day, scammers pretended to be officials from the office and called four hardware stores in Incheon, stating their intention to purchase safety items such as blood pressure monitors and gloves. They also sent false official documents. However, the hardware stores contacted the education office to verify the requests, so no actual damage occurred.
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education plans to request a police investigation regarding this incident.
An official from the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education stated, "If you receive an order or contract request via official document or phone call from the education office, please always verify the facts through the official contact information of the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education," and added, "We will swiftly share information with all schools and businesses and respond firmly to criminal acts impersonating public institutions."
