President Lee Jaemyung received a report on July 31 regarding the current state of labor market polarization, including wage disparities, and instructed the preparation of countermeasures.
Presidential spokesperson Kang Yujeong stated at a briefing at the Yongsan presidential office that "an assessment and discussion of labor market polarization took place during a closed senior aides meeting." At the meeting, Presidential Secretary for Social Affairs Moon Jinyoung gave a presentation on the concept and actual conditions of labor market polarization. According to spokesperson Kang, an in-depth discussion followed on the structural disparities in working conditions that occur between contractors and subcontractors.
According to spokesperson Kang, President Lee stated, "Labor market polarization has become entrenched over a long period," and emphasized that "fundamental changes and legislative efforts must be made to lead policies that address the issue of identical labor receiving different treatment."
