Up to 1 Million Won for Newlyweds Aged 18 to 29 Living in Gumi City
Support for Purchasing Home Appliances and Furniture
Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province will provide financial support for household goods to citizens in their twenties who get married. This initiative aims to encourage young people to marry and help them settle down in the early stages of marriage. The support fund covers the cost of purchasing home appliances and furniture, with a maximum of 1 million won per household.
According to Gumi City on July 31, a budget of 164 million won has been allocated to ease the financial burden of young newlywed couples who lack sufficient funds. Each household can receive up to 1 million won for the purchase of home appliances and furniture.
The eligible recipients are newlywed couples in their twenties who have settled in Gumi City after getting married on or after January 1 of this year. Both spouses must be at least 18 and no older than 29 years old as of the date of marriage registration (born between 1995 and those born in 2007 who have already had their birthday). In addition, both must have maintained resident registration in North Gyeongsang Province for at least six consecutive months from the date of marriage registration to the application date, and the applicant must currently be registered as a resident and living in Gumi City.
The required documents include the application form, receipts for the purchase of home appliances and furniture (valid from one year before the marriage registration date to the application date), a copy of each spouse's resident registration certificate (including address change history), a detailed marriage certificate, and a copy of the bank account. Applications can be submitted starting from August 1 by visiting the local administrative welfare center or through the Government24 website.
Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi City, stated, "Marriage among young people is a crucial issue that determines the future of our region," and added, "I hope this support for household goods will serve as a practical measure to encourage marriage. We will continue to expand various customized policies so that young people do not hesitate to marry and have children."
Experts assess that early-stage marriage support policies for young people can not only reduce their economic burden but also serve as a long-term solution to the crisis of regional depopulation. Marriage involves complex factors such as housing, employment, and living expenses. Among these, policies that reduce the initial cost burden are seen as realistic incentives to encourage young people to settle in the region.
Meanwhile, since April, Gumi City has also been providing up to 1 million won (in Gumi Love Gift Certificates) as a marriage encouragement grant to young workers aged 30 to 45 who have completed marriage registration this year.
