"Namyangju Ieum University" is a project that connects each local area with a university on a one-to-one basis to identify residents' learning needs and integrate outstanding university resources, thereby providing customized lifelong learning opportunities for residents. It was designed to establish a Namyangju-style lifelong learning model that reflects the unique characteristics of each town, township, and neighborhood.
Through this agreement, the city matched five residents' autonomy centers with five universities in the Seoul metropolitan area on a one-to-one basis.
The matching configuration is as follows: Wabu-eup with Seoul National University of Science and Technology Lifelong Education Institute, Jinjeop-eup with Kyungbok University Lifelong Education College, Hwado-eup with Seoul Women's University Lifelong Education Institute, Dasan 1-dong with Korea University Future Education Institute, and Byeollae-dong with Sahmyook University Lifelong Education Institute.
The signing ceremony was attended by 28 people, including Mayor Joo Gwangdeok, heads of residents' autonomy (committees), and directors of university lifelong education institutions. The event proceeded in the following order: introduction of attendees, explanation of the purpose of the agreement, and signing of the memorandum.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok stated, "'Namyangju Ieum University' is a new lifelong learning platform that inherits the spirit of learning of Jeong Yak-yong. As Jeong Yak-yong said, 'Do not fear the outcome, just begin,' I hope this project will mark a great beginning in the field of lifelong education."
He added, "I would like to thank the universities and residents' autonomy officials who cooperated to make this pilot operation possible."
Through this agreement, the city plans to form a close-knit network with local residents, establish a cooperative system between universities and the community, and convert the human and material resources of universities into learning assets. In addition, based on the results of the pilot operation, the city plans to expand lifelong learning centers in towns, townships, and neighborhoods tailored to the characteristics of each region.
