Commemorating the Independence Movement and the Legacy of Prime Minister Lee Sangryong

To mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation, Andong and Seoul are creating a meaningful venue for exchange to honor the spirit of the independence movement.

80th Anniversary of Liberation Exchange Exhibition: Experiencing the Spirit of Lee Sangryong in Seoul ‘State Councilor Lee Sangryong and Imcheonggak: Spirit and Writings for the Nation’ Held at Seoul Museum of History.

On July 31, the Andong city government announced that it will co-host a special exchange exhibition with the Seoul Metropolitan Government titled "Prime Minister Lee Sangryong and Imcheonggak: Spirit and Writings for the Nation."

The exhibition will be held from August 5 to 31 on the first floor of the Seoul Museum of History in the special exhibition hall.

This exhibition is a result of the exchange and cooperation agreement signed between Seoul and Andong in 2023, and has been organized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the inauguration of Seokju Lee Sangryong, who served as the first Prime Minister of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea.

Through the exhibition, the achievements of Seokju Lee in the independence movement, the historical significance of Imcheonggak, and his ideological legacy will be introduced to citizens of Seoul.

More than 90 materials, including poems and letters left by Seokju Lee, will be on display. The modern ideas and patriotic spirit contained in his collected works "Seokju Yugo" will be presented through 59 calligraphy pieces. The exhibition will also shed light on the journey of independence activism that began at Imcheonggak by the Lee Sangryong family, as well as various aspects of his life and spirit.

A Seoul city official stated, "On the 80th anniversary of Liberation, we hope this event will remind us of the sacrifices upon which the freedom and peace we enjoy in our liberated homeland were built, and that it will serve as an occasion to honor the noble spirit of Seokju Lee."

An Andong city official commented, "This exhibition, jointly prepared by Andong?the 'capital of Korean spiritual culture' that produced the most independence activists?and Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea, will provide an opportunity to reflect once again on the meaning of Liberation. We also ask for much interest in Imcheonggak, which is scheduled to open in October."
